26 March is a red letter day in our national history. It is
our independence day. This day is a public holiday and it is celebrated
nationally with dignity.
Recently just a few days ago, we celebrated this day visiting
the national memorial at Savar. On the day, I along with my parents and some
friends of the family visited the place. From Shantinagar, Dhaka, we went to
Savar by bus. We started at 7 a.m. and reached the spot at 10 a.m.
A number of people came to visit the national memorial. I was
astonished to see the huge size of the monument. There were some columns that
started from different positions of the same base and ended at the same point.
This memorial is a pride of the nation because it reminds us of the sacrifice
of the martyrs. We also visited the graveyards of the martyred freedom fighters
adjacent to the monument. Then we visited some other spots of the complex. We
stayed there upto evening and learned many things of our war of independence.
We came back home with a feeling of pride and respect.
