Should Drugs Be Illegalized?

Scientists define drugs as any substance, solid, liquid, or gas that causes physical and psychological changes. People are still arguing about drugs and their legalization. Some people think that drugs should be legalized when some other people think that should be illegalized. Most of the people that support legalizing drugs lack logical reasons that can support their point of view. Based on scientific and efficient reasons, there is no doubt that drugs should be illegalized because of their harmful effects on health, social life, and economy.

The first main reason that people emphasize on to support their point of view about illegalizing drugs is that drugs have many harmful effects on health. For example, marijuana, when smoked, causes many short-terms and long-terms effects on health. Firstly, marijuana causes memory and learning problems, coordination problems, thinking and problem-solving problems. Moreover, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops a few minutes after smoking marijuana. Researchers proved that the risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana. on the other hand, drugs in general cause body pain, increase body temperature and cause repeated convulsions. When drug users stop using it, they experience a "crash" which includes depression, fatigue, lack of pleasure, anxiety, irritability, sleepiness and a strong craving for more drugs.

On the other hand, people indicated many harmful effects of drugs on social life in order to illegalize it and support their point of view. Robbery and violence are directly connected with the drug consumed, and this is clearly seen in many cities where drugs are the main cause involved in homicide. drugs are connected with disunited families as well. Addicted parents rarely offer a safe life for their children because the link between them and their children is always destroyed. Many of these children run away from their parents because of their parents' aimless behavior which is shown in the way they act with the people around them, steal from their friends and family, and lose their job once they find it. Moreover, drug abuse leads to physical abuse of children and family. Drugs, especially when mixed with alcohol, can lead to violent behavior even if the person is normally quiet and calm. Researches indicated that 17% of the drug users are aggressive and violent, especially after taking drugs.

Thirdly, drugs harmful effect on the economy is one of the reasons that support illegalizing drugs. Drug abuse affects a fairly large segment of any country's economy. statistics indicated that drugs trafficking  makes about 8% of international trade, which is 400$ billion approximately. Based on what's mentioned above, it's easy to analyze how deep do drugs affect their users' lives. An average addicted to drugs person needs about 1000$ to pay for the drugs. This amount of money can easily affect anyone's life, and make it worse and more difficult to the bread-maker of the family. The deficit the drugs cause to the economy is clearly shown in those countries where drug trafficking is widespread. All of those reasons proved to many countries that drugs should be illegalized immediately and led them to put rules to make sure that their economy is safe enough and able to survive in order to ensure a safe life for the citizens.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that drugs should be illegalized due to the harmful effects on health, social life, and nations' economy. Governments should spread out the idea that drugs destroy every single aspect of people's life, starting from the way they think and act to the way they eat and wear. Parents should play the main role in advising the new generations and making sure that they are safe and close enough to a healthy happy life. We need a capable society that supports healthy habits and encourages people to quit their unhealthy ones. People should get a good lifestyle in order to get a shiny future.
